The night sky...

In the past, I have looked into the night's sky and thought, "with all those stars, surely there's life out there near one of them."
Tonight, I looked into the night's sky and thought, "What if there's life around all of them?"
It was overwhleming.
Then I thought, "This could be true..." I quickly rationalized, "That light is from millions of years ago. In that amount of time, a microbe could evolve into a self aware entity."
Perhaps I was a bit eager to believe. The interweb says the nearest star is a mere 4.2 light years away. That means the light isn't even half a decade old by the time it reaches us.
So my mind wandered, "All those stars, if they aren't designed to create life, what do they do? Why are they all out there?"
And then my mind wonders, "the polls of the earth supposedly switch directions...."
And I postulate, "Two states... the polls are binary.... and they change.... maybe the infrastructure of the universe is relaying binary information."
So I ask the interwebs, "Is the universe a machine?"
And while I'm reading the answers written by anyone on our planet with access to the interwebs, I start to notice the moment. And I'm in it, alone. I'm isolated, behind walls, stairing into what amounts to an interactive television.
So like any other consumer, I gave up on solving the mystery of life to see out some piece of art that captured my current state of desires.
